La Sun Records, appartenente al gruppo Sun Entertainment Corp, è una casa discografica indipendente statunitense fondata a Memphis, in Tennessee, che iniziò la sua attività il 27 marzo 1952.
Storia
La Sun Records fu una tra le più importanti case discografiche degli anni Cinquanta. Fondata da Sam Phillips ha come logo dell'etichetta una mezza circonferenza con un gallo al centro, il sole ("Sun") sullo sfondo e uno spartito musicale come cornice. La sede della Sun Records è a Memphis (nel Tennessee), dove l'ondata rock 'n roll e rockabilly riscosse maggior successo negli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta. Il proprietario Sam Phillips, insieme al fratello, ha scoperto grandi esponenti del rock come Elvis Presley (successivamente passato alla RCA), Johnny Cash (che vi incise fino al 1961), Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison e Jerry Lee Lewis. Nel luglio 1969 Philips vendette la casa discografica a Shelby Singleton, produttore discografico[1]. La Sun Records esiste ancor oggi e una parte, il Sun Studio è adibito a museo.
