Michael Oluwadurotimi Obafemi (Dublino, 6 luglio 2000) è un calciatore irlandese di origini nigeriane, attaccante del Plymouth, in prestito dal Burnley, e della nazionale irlandese.
Biografia
Nato a Dublino da genitori nigeriani, è poi cresciuto a Londra con il resto della famiglia.[1] È fratello di Afolabi Obafemi, anch'egli calciatore.[2][3]
Carriera
Club
Cresciuto nei settori giovanili di varie squadre londinesi, tra cui Watford e Leyton Orient[1], nel 2016 si trasferisce al Southampton. Il 21 gennaio 2018 esordisce in Premier League, nella partita pareggiata contro il Tottenham[4], diventando così il secondo giocatore più giovane della storia dei Saints ad esordire nella massima serie, dopo Luke Shaw.[5]
Il 22 dicembre 2018 realizza la sua prima rete in Premier League nel successo per 3-1 sul campo dell'Huddersfield Town; con questa rete, all'età di 18 anni e 169 giorni, diviene il più giovane marcatore del Southampton in Premier.[6][7]
Il 13 luglio 2020 realizza la rete del definitivo 2-2 contro il Manchester United.
Il 31 agosto 2021 viene ceduto a titolo definitivo allo Swansea City.[8][9]
Nazionale
Ha giocato nella nazionale irlandese Under-19.
Ha debuttato con la nazionale irlandese il 19 novembre 2018, nella partita di Nations League pareggiata per 0-0 contro la Danimarca, sostituendo all'80º minuto Callum O'Dowda. La sua è stata la prima presenza collezionata con i Boys in Green per un giocatore nato negli anni 2000.[3][10][11][12]
L'11 giugno 2022 realizza la sua prima rete in nazionale nel successo per 3-0 contro la Scozia in Nations League.[13]
